Goodwin's Mission
The events and characters in A LESS PERFECT UNION are completely fictitious and serve to point out that partisan politics is not only unproductive, it divides the country and contributes to the rise of extreme views and emotional arguments.
As the country ages, the purity of constitutional fundamentals is becoming buried under a pile of reactive laws born out of self-serving agendas. Greed and power hungry individuals form like-minded groups to expand and solidify their hold. When the infection threatens the whole, a radical cleansing is needed. This cycle of complacency and change repeats itself as the corruption blackens the freedom that created it.
In an age when national singing competitions can gather the country’s opinion on a singing talent, one must wonder why delegates are needed to vote on one’s behalf. Those that drafted the rules could not have predicted the technological advancements of the information age, yet no politician seems eager to eliminate outdated practices such as the electoral college.
Americans have the power of the vote, but at a federal level, only for their favorite politician. Opinions are formed from the information available, much of which is controlled by those in power. For the naïve, opinions are easily swayed by the biased media outlets. Why are independent candidates never represented at national debates? The only exception is the rich businessman who bought his way in.
The clock is ticking on the cycle of this version of the American government, and real change cannot occur with one politician. A political revolution can accomplish the necessary cyclical end-point to achieve change and liberty. The authors of this book hope to see a sincere bi-partisan approach on the part of all public servants, resulting in compromised, unified solutions for all Americans. We hope this book paints the inevitable conclusion to continuing with politics as usual. We need only look to our own history for this lesson.
